I have a really funny story about how I was worried about officially posting something about my new house, then an hour after I instagrammed  a picture of my mailbox yesterday I got an email from the mortgage people. That's a story for the day after everything is actually official. (because now I'm extra superstitious.) Anyways, it's time for the Can of Corn linkup!

PROMOTIONS. Guys, that's what I miss most about my MiLB times. Yesterday facebook told me it had officially been too many years since we had a promotion for the Roller Derby + all dressed up like we were in the roller derby (my name was Delta SLAMMA' -- I still have the t-shirt) I also am a huge sucker for puns (see: me insisting on a May the 4th Be With You Star Wars night for every team I worked for)

I also really dig the promotions that incorporate a non-baseball activity into the day, like a pre-game 5K or post game concerts because then I can drag my non-baseball people to things with me, duh.

CAN YOU GUYS BELIEVE WE'RE ALREADY HALFWAY THROUGH THIS? I'm getting ScoreCenter updates on my phone so it's real guys. Baseball season is almost here!!!!!! So, let's get down to business (to defeat the Huns). If you don't have much of an appetite today, you should check out all of the ballpark food we drooled over last week -- you're guaranteed to be hungry afterwards.

Now. Favorite player is such a tough one for me. I mentioned how Javy Lopez was the first man I ever loved. For the longest time Tommy Hanson was a mild obsession (actually, that was pretty funny. I convinced people that he was actually my boyfriend so when he got a concussion at spring training one year people called me to make sure he was okay. only a little crazy right? no, no that's a lot crazy.)

I always felt like I could justify it because plenty of girls looooooved Chipper (honestly, I never got the appeal sorry if he's your favorite..) I just remember one day, when I was working in Rome, after a game Tommy Hanson stayed to sign autographs for every little kid. Even though he didn't have to. The most adorable trait of a ballplayer in my eyes. I also became a fan of Brandon Belt when I was in the Cali league + he was rehabbing with the other team. Even though it meant I couldn't go home until he decided to go home. 

There was also a time when we had a fan club for a few of our friends on the baseball team. Fun fact: shortly after this picture was taken, I almost go kicked out of the FSU baseball stadium. You really shouldn't tell me I can sit "anywhere I can find a space for my behind that doesn't belong to a ticketed fan" if you don't mean anywhere. 

OKAY. So aside from Javy (well, and Brandon Belt...) I have always had a special place in my heart for pitchers. Couldn't tell you why, I played first base growing up...

So with all the Braves trades + deals, I don't have a current favorite player. I'm in the market for a new favorite player, so why don't you convince me? Who's yours? Link up link up link up!! We'll have so much fun!

2014 Favorites!

It's that time of year where everyone starts saying, "can you believe how fast this year went by?" time flies when you're having fun or something. Since Helene is doing the best songs of 2014 today, (also since her Worst Songs of 2014 was so on point) I had to play along! Since I can never follow any rules, I'm going to do my overall favorites this year. Not just songs!   

books // I didn't do a lot of new reading this year, I embraced a #nonewbooks attitude, so I reread all the Harry Potter books, some more than once. I did really enjoy Where'd You Go Bernadette + Teatime for Firefly though!

movies // I really had to think about this to realize that I didn't see that many movies this year. I did love Mockingjay [part one obviously] and Divergent [that was this year, right? I tried to say Frozen, but I think I saw that last December. It all blends together....]

songs! // last, but certainly not least -- my favorite jams of this year! 

back to the shack // HELLO WEEZER IS BACK. I think that alone was worth getting excited for. I really dig this one though back to the strat with the lightining strap

leave the night on // okay, so maybe Sam Hunt is from our neck of the woods too, but come on, "sky's dropping jupiter around us like some old Train." come. on. 

be your last // oh I just discovered this one recently, but it has to make the list. it's too cute. I love her voice. also baby we're all just sinners trying to keep our hearts intact.

all through the night // remember when Grey's Anatomy only did songs that were covers of other songs? This one still makes me cry a little. 

diamond rings + old barstools // because. Tim McGraw. Obviously. it ain't like watered down whiskey and coke, I guess some things just don't mix like you hope, like me + you

jealous // HELLO. I touched on this the week before last, but man am I a Nick Jonas fan. You have to watch the video, obviously. 

I really thought I would have more to say here today when I started out! Apparently I wasn't too adventurous this year. I'll have to work on that for 2015! What were your favorites this year?

Where In The World?

I'm late to the party today because that intro class we took at Pink Barre last night kicked my booty. Oddly enough, I definitely plan on going back. I might just be hooked. ANYWAYS it's time for Write or Die and Hashtag Humpday. Also. By the by. If you haven't heard of these linkups, I don't know why, but you really should. Ch-ch-ch-check 'em out!

Now, the prompt for WODW is if you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be. Well, I have recently blogged about that answer being Ireland. I am the most stubborn person you will ever meet fairly stubborn, and so I'm going to keep Ireland at the top of that list until I get there. Seems like a solid plan, right? #goalsetting. So instead, I'm making up the rules as I go along, and we're going to do some of the fictional places I want to go. Obviously. 

HOGWARTS // if you didn't see that one coming, you haven't been paying attention. I'm not talking the studio, or Harry Potter world, or that place in Poland for that super intense LARP thing. I'm talking actual Hogwarts. Moving staircases, talking pictures, rooms that appear out of nowhere, towers, Quidditch fields, Forbidden Forest... the whole shebang. I'm still waiting on my Hogwarts letter.

Gatsby's House in West Egg // a little party never killed nobody. I would have fit in so well in the 1920's. I love to dance. I want all of the clothes that Daisy wears in all the movie adaptations. I'm listening to jazz music as I write this. Contemplating a glass of champagne. It just all seems so glamorous. Yes, I've read the book a thousand times. I know how it ends. I just also like the idea of a man throwing the best parties in the hopes that I would show up. you feel me, right ladies? #champagneforbreakfast

The Library in the Beast's Castle // okay so maybe just the whole castle in general. Also, I feel ya Belle, if I was told explicitly not to go to the west wing, that's the first place I would want to go to. But that library y'all. You could live in it. You could literally spend your entire life in there and not read all the books. So many more fictional places I could go to! #booksfordays

Tara // there are a lot of opinions about Gone With the Wind, I love to hear them all. I did, however, cry big fat alligator tears the day I learned that Tara was, in fact, a movie set. That there wasn't actually a house somewhere that happened to be spared on the March to the Sea. I always imagined when I grew up and married my own Rhett Butler that I would live in that house. I'm kinda sad thinking about it not happening now... #fiddledeedee

Top Five Ways To Win Your Tacky Sweater Party

Okay, so in all fairness, I had this post planned for Friday but I did not have my act together, so I'm really sorry if you lost your tacky sweater contest because you were missing my tips. That's on me. Anyways. It's not even a little bit of a secret that I love Christmas sweaters. I also love anything that has to do with accessorizing my Christmas sweaters. So, feel free to use this as a guide, unless you're competition involves me, then pretend you never read this.. I'm lookin' at y'all, Atlanta Bloggers...

hair accessories // I have been known to wear the bows intended for outside on giant trees in my hair. I'm not talking the ones that go on Christmas presents, I'm talking the ones that have wires attached to them so you can mount them on the fence. The bigger, the better when it comes to hair accessories. I'm talking gluing tinsel + tree ornaments to a headband. It ties the outfit together.

SOCKS // okay. I have an issue with matching socks, I think it's bad luck. So when I have Christmas socks, they usually don't match (weird fact  about my superstition, if I'm wearing matching socks, I'm probably wearing mismatched ones under them, you know, just in case..) socks can really tie your outfit together.

jewelry // My absolute favorite jewelry you can make yourself for less than $10. Michael's has a section dedicated to tiny Christmas trees. Grab the tiny Christmas tree ornaments of your choice, some earring hooks, and pliers, boom instant Christmas earrings. You can never go wrong with the oversized Santa ones that are already made either. Don't forget the necklaces that light up. ONE DAY I will have a sweater that lights up. one day.

hair //  I have always wanted to do the whole hairdo like a Who from Whoville thing, but I'm scared if I pulled all of my hair up like that I'd fall over... so I usually go with my braided pigtail look (more bows, duh)

THE SWEATER // Now, no pressure here. But the sweater is really what matters most. Obviously. The trick to getting the best sweaters though? shop for them in the summer. I get my Christmas sweaters at the Goodwill in like, June. It's the best because no one is really thinking oh I should totally be on the lookout for this year's sweater! in the middle of the summer. (maybe I shouldn't have shared this with the internet, now I'm going to have sweater competition in June...)

Five Things For UGA vs. Arkansas

Okay, we're still not ready to forget that we blanked Mizzou. Well, I'm not at least. I haven't been that proud of our defense in a while. That whole team made one hell of a statement to everyone who thought we couldn't produce without Todd Gurley. This week is by no means an easy week either, we never seem to have easy weeks.. This week we head to the University of Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks, here's a handy guide for this weekend::

SEC West // last week was an important game for the SEC East battle,  this game is a different kind of important. Since Arkansas is in the SEC West, we can lose this game and still head to the SEC Championship game, but we need to win this game, because I want us to go to the playoffs, obviously. The first matchup between UGA and Arkansas was in 1969, and the record currently stands with Georgia leading 9-4. The teams haven't met since 2010 when Arkansas came to Athens and beat us 31-24. Hopefully there's still a bad taste in their mouth.

a freshman! // with Todd Gurley possibly out for the rest of the season, we have shown our depth in the running back position. Georgia has always been an outstanding program for running backs, and this year is no different. Last week, true freshman Nick Chubb picked the team up and carried for a career high 143 yards and one TD. It rubs me the wrong way that the announcers called him "Baby Gurley" for the first quarter, but after they realized he was an outstanding athlete all on his own, they learned his name. Hopefully we'll get to see a lot more of Nick this weekend. 

while we're talking about Todd // there's not been an actual update on his status, I'm going to take a second to voice my opinion on this subject. The kid made a bad choice and put his team and career in jeopardy, but college is a time to make mistakes. When I was twenty, I made plenty of mistakes in Athens, not limited to a haircut, the guy I dated, and going to Bourbon Street. I think Coach Richt did the right thing by sitting him, because we all remember AJ Green's suspension [which by the way, everyone still felt the same way then.] I hope all of the media coverage is enough for the NCAA to realize there are certain rules they should change. If they're really hurtin' for that money, why don't they set up an approved system for the athletes to sign autographs and receive a kickback? Because, honestly, if it's true that he only got $20 an item, he got ripped off. That's all I have on that. Well unless I write up an argument against people saying "rules are rules" -- that would make a good list... Also, I'm just going to leave this here.

wooo pig sooie! // The University of Arkansas is an SEC school, so obviously they have traditions too. [I'm sure other schools have them, I'm just really not up to any of the other division school's traditions..] In Athens, we call the dawgs, well in Arkansas they call the hogs! I love a good chant. So if you hear someone shout "woo pig sooie!' on Saturday, they're not being rude or calling you fat, they're just cheering for Arkansas.

all about that d // Arkansas really likes to run the ball, so does Georgia. This game will come down to which team's D-Line can stop the run game. Last week we forced poor Matty Mauk to throw four interceptions, so if the defense that went to Mizzou also goes to Arkansas, I'll only lose like, 4 years off of my life instead of 10. If the defense that showed up for Tennessee is there, I'll be closer to 15.

I Need A Coffee IV

Obligatory comment about how it's already the 15th + I can't believe we're halfway to November because I am not ready for November. I'm also not mentally prepared to deal with the fact that I haven't been in sports in a full time capacity for a year, that's a really hard thing for me to deal with. So let's go back to the fun stuff! 

I'm genuinely surprised that so many people during the #Blogtober14 prompts say they really don't like Halloween. I didn't realize it was a holiday people didn't care for, maybe it's because I'm always up for candy + theme parties though. Plus, Hocus Pocus.

With the 34-0 win over Mizzou this weekend, I've come to the realization that I can never wear a different dress. The one game this year I didn't wear the dress? We lost. So far the dress is 8-0 EIGHT. In related news, I've worn that dress to/for eight games. I've definitely gotten my $35 out of it. I realized that I might have to get married in it + also requested that if I died during Saturday's game, that I be buried in it. good thing it's a cute dress.

I Confess...

I almost forgot today was Wednesday. I'm not sure what day I thought it was, but it wasn't Wednesday. BUT that means it's time to link up with Kat for Humpday Confessions.

I tweeted about the weather three times on Monday, and I am a little sorry about that. I am not dealing with this heat wave we're having well though. I am ready to wear leggings and sweaters and whatever else qualifies me as "basic".. but I haven't instagrammed any leaves with my shoes yet. 

I totally wanted to wake up for that eclipse this morning, then I remembered how much I love sleep. From what I hear, you couldn't even see it anyways.

How To Talk To ACTUAL Women About Sports : An Open Letter to Teresa Sagba + Men's Health Magazine

Last night, I read an incredible article about how women don't care for sports and need you to provide them with a sappy storyline to get interested. Apparently, since last night, Men's Health Magazine has taken this article down, but there's a pretty good Deadspin explanation of it here.

Dear Teresa, Men's Health Magazine, and Andrei Markovits, Ph.D.,

I recently stumbled upon your article,  if that's what we're calling the paragraph and a half of information I found thanks to Twitter. I am appalled by the content of this article for a multitude of reasons including, but not limited to, the fact that I have been a woman watching sports my entire life, that I don't always "need a story line" in order to stay interested in any topic, and that it's assumed women don't care about stats. I am quite impressed that it took you less than 150 words to upset nearly every female who has read this article.

I've been a sports fan my entire life. There was never a time in my life where the men (or any adults in my life, for that matter) ever felt the need to explain to me in small words about the back stories of players for me to be interested. They never treated me any different when watching sports than they would have my brother or any male cousins.

I cannot believe you Teresa, as a woman yourself, were comfortable generalizing women into one tiny specific niche. I cannot believe that any woman would take such a demeaning tone. If you're looking for a better guide on how to get more women interested in sports, try an angle like Sarah takes over at Venus Trapped in Mars. 

I think it's incredibly offensive to assume that the only way women will care anything about sports is if a player's wife battled cancer and he took a year off to help her fight. Please do not get me wrong, with the Ray Rice and Aaron Hernandez stories in sports, it's incredibly uplifting to hear about the NFL rallying behind Devon Still and his daughter. I, personally, would also be interested in sports if it was just about athletes working hard to make it as a professional athlete and role model.

It's completely understandable to argue that "not all women are interested in statistics" because they're not. Do you know what is also worth noting? Not all men are interested in statistics either. As a woman who does know statistics, I've "scared men off" with my knowledge and passion for sports. Just don't judge my abilities by the abysmal performance of my fantasy football team. Did I mention that I play in a league with all women?

Would you like to know the best way to talk to a woman about sports? Like she's your equal, because that's what she is. Even if she hasn't been a sports fan her entire life, talking to her like she's a five year old who doesn't understand is not going to get your point across.

Humpday Confessions :: I've Lost Count

I always feel so unprepared when I haven't written my confessions ahead of time and have to do them the day of. I feel like everyone gets up at like 2 am to make sure they're on the linkup first! So far behind because 2 am is definitely a sleepy time.

Saturday I knew it was too damn hot to wear my cowboy boots to tailgate but I refused to accept it and stubbornly wore them and at more than one point in the day took them off and ran around barefoot.

I have been seeing a lot of these stupid "x amount of things that don't matter after you turn 25" and according to this COSMO article, I'm not acting like I'm 25 because people still ask me what my college GPA was in job interviews, and I still think what music someone listens to tells a lot about their personality. Also, almost every point she makes is contradicted by her explanations... At first I felt ridiculous for being so irritated over a Cosmo article, then I realized I was most irritated because someone got PAID to write this stupid thing.

Most of my friends from college are growing up, becoming real people, going on tropical vacations with their significant others, getting married, buying houses, and I'm just hanging out keeping up with the current college kids instead. I don't have any FOMO or guilt. You do your home improvement projects, I'll enjoy my bottomless mimosas.

I couldn't possibly care any less that the Pumpkin Spice Latte doesn't have any actual pumpkin in it. I'm not really sure what made this lady think anyone really believed that it wasn't an artificial flavor. Also, I think organic is a crock unless you see exactly where that's coming from. I'll stick to my "non-organic coffee that may contain pesticides" thanks.
