Can of Corn: Favorite Ballparks

I know I've said it before, but I swear I'm about to get really back into the blog-o-sphere, because #kaseybuysahouse IS HAPPENING. Until I get all of that sorted out, I will probably be shady still. HOWEVER. You can count on me for the monthly baseball linkup no matter what! This month we're talking ballparks!

Okie dokie! I'm just the co-host, P.J. is the brains behind the operation, so here are the rules guidelines for Can of Corn!
  • Write about baseball using the theme (or not) on the dates provided (or thereabout) from March-October. Just make it baseball!
  • Use the button in your post somewhere (at the end or whatever) and link back to me + P.J.
  • Go to one of our blogs the day this comes up (or thereafter) and linkup! The linkup will be "live" for a week after the date.
  • Visit other blogs, read, comment, and make some new baseball pals!
  • Have a cold beer (because let's be real, anything I'm involved in involves a cold beer...)
Can of Corn 2016 - Dates
NOW BALLPARKS. I know we've covered that my experience in major league parks is limited to four (er five if you count Atlanta Fulton County and Turner Field as separate...) : Turner Field, AT&T, Chase Field, and whatever they're calling the Texas Rangers' park these days.. Nothing really stood out to me about Ranger ballpark, sorry Texas... I really liked the roof at Chase (I had a chance to see the ballpark with the roof open AND closed. like, best of both worlds man.) Even though it was frigid, I loved that the bay is right behind the outfield at AT&T. OBVIOUSLY I have some deep loyalty to the Ted.

HOWEVER! I am going to add two, yes two, new ballparks to my list (er. check them off my list?) at the end of July! I'm going to visit Jen and catching an O's game AND a gNats game! Two birds, one plane ticket. SO it happens to fall two weeks after we talk about our dream baseball road trips, but you know I won't be doing that much driving anyways.

I have been to my fair share of MiLB parks -- but my favorite MiLB park has most to do with the experiences there rather than the ballpark itself. not to say a lot of my blood, sweat, and tears aren't a part of that park now. I'd still pick Recreation Park or whatever they're calling the park that the Rawhide play in now. That was my first job out of college, my first time living more than two hours from my parents. My first time on my own. There were a lot of ups and downs but man did I love it.

NOW it's your turn! What are your favorite ballparks? I know you're surprised that I haven't been to many, being the biggest baseball fan you know, but I'm working on it.

Can of Corn: Memories

Can we just have a moment of silence for the Braves? Just, like, real quick..........

Can of Corn Challenge

SO. Baseball memories. I have so so so many. You know, a lifetime of them duh. My all time favorite events working for teams were definitely anything firework related. I love fireworks guys. I could see a show every night of the week + still love them. I am just a giant 7 year-old. Even when I was in Cali + we had to pick up the pieces of the fireworks after the show, I loved every second of it.
ALSO two summers ago I got to see WEEZER which was pretty kickass. I'm excited for the lineup the Braves have this year too. Post game concerts are so fun because you get a whole ball game and then some! Plus. A free Weezer concert comeON. admit it, Buddy Holly is stuck in your head now...
Also also any and all post season games I've ever been to. Sometimes I get chills just thinking about them. I don't want to post any of those pictures though because it just bums me out man. The whole "worst start in Atlanta ever" is really harshing my vibe. SO cheer me up! Join us with your favorite baseball memories!!! I can't wait to read all of the stories!

Can of Corn: Baseballisms

I just watched Scandal so I have a really strong desire to start this off good morning lovers of liberty and I don't have a good reason for that. Anywhoodles. Today is the very first day of our Can of Corn Linkup + we are talking baseballisms. If you know anything about me, you know I'm a sucker for cheesy jokes, irony, and clever puns. BUT FIRST, some housekeeping.

Okie dokie! I'm just the co-host, P.J. is the brains behind the operation, so here are the rules guidelines for Can of Corn!

OKAY now that that is out of the way let's do it to it. As I mentioned, I love a good cheesy joke, so naturally I love anything Yogi Berra said. Like "baseball is 90% mental and the other half is physical" I'd have to say my favorite, at least at this exact moment in time, is Babe Ruth:

What is your favorite?

Announcing Can Of Corn -- A Season-Long Baseball Linkup!!!

Can of Corn Challenge

Imaginary All Stars

OH HEY GUYS. Remember me? I completely understand if you want to hate me. I make this big announcement about an announcement and then I completely fell off the face of the Earth. That was mean of me. I would be mad at me. So I am sorry for that. I don't usually apologize for blog life absences, because we all have lives. We all know life happens. Also, I'm not ready to tell you what the announcement was because, you know. Life. ANYWAYS YOU KNOW WHAT TOAY IS? I almost FORGOT. CAN YOU BELIEVE I ALMOST FORGOT!? Allison is the life saver. I really thought it was NEXT Thursday. Hashtag Space Cadet.

THE RULES ARE SUPER EASY:

  • write about baseball on the third Thursday of every month this season. if you're stumped, check out our prompts. if you're not stumped, we wanna read what you have too!
  • use the button! or just link back to me + Allison (WE CAN DO ALL THE SOCIAL MEDIAS TOO!)
  • link up!

  • 7th Inning Stretch Link Up
  • make new friends who like baseball!
  • have a cold beer.
okay, that last step is optional, but I mean, I'm gonna do it. SO. Here are our suggestions (I use 'our' lightly, they're 100% Allison's idea.. lalalalaaa)
  • April 16th : pick your pretend fantasy team!
    • Only pick players who are currently on a major league roster
    • Choose 8 players for your starting lineup, 5 starting pitchers, and 2-3 relievers??
    • I believe there should be a constitutional amendment against the Designated Hitter (name that movie for bonus points..) so just don't draft them. or lose points at a position. #sorryboutcha AL.
    • the rules are made up + the points don't matter
  • May 21stfavorite ballpark(s)? Why?
  • June 18th : All-Star picks and predictions
  • July 16th : best promotions and theme nights, or what promos/themes would you plan for your team?
  • August 20th : if I was commissioner...
  • September 17th : favorite baseball books + movies (I can't promise I'll like you more if you pick Casey at the Bat..... but I can't promise you I won't.....)
  • October 15th : recap your fantasy team, share favorite moments, season highlights, fun stories, update your World Series Predictions.
I figured, since I've been a ghost (not just here, all over the internet. did I even EXIST for the past few days? it's debatable.) I thought, why not make my All Star Team imaginary?! so. That's happening. READY GO.

Catcher, team captain, + player to be named later: Crash Davis
Kevin Costner is SUCH A BABE
Starting Pitcher: Henry Rowengartner
source
Short Stop: Benny 'The Jet' Rodriguez
Closer: Rick Vaughn
wild thing, you make my heart sing
Outfield: Ben Williams + The Angels
we won? WE WON?!
First, Second, Third base: Helen Haley, Marla Hooch, Doris Murphy respectively.
source
See. I would probably have also picked Dottie, but you know, she tries to quit halfway through the season. So I'm torn. Also she turned into a super bitch when she grew up and became that doctor on Grey's Anatomy.

So, what are your thoughts? Who's on your All-Star team?

Take Me Out To The Ballgame!

We made it! We're a little over a month into the season, I've come to terms with the fact that the Braves are probably going to lose 100 games this year, so there's really nowhere for them to go but up in my book! (one day we can really get into the psychology behind battered fan syndrome. because I think it's a thing. sometimes it's emotionally exhausting to be an Atlanta fan.) HOWEVER today is the THIRD THURSDAY! So do you know what that means?! It's time to stretch!

NOW that that is out of the way. Let's talk about my favorite ballparks. First of all. I saw plenty of games at Atlanta Fulton County before they tore it down, so I really liked that one. Obviously the Ted has been my home for quite some time, but I'm really excited to see what that new ballpark has to offer in 2017 too. I'm not so afraid of change, usually it's pretty exciting. HERE are a few not-so-obvious ballparks I also loved!

Okay. I didn't get along too well with Giants fans when I went to San Francisco, also it's colder than it ever should be, but MAN was AT&T cool. Call me old school, but I thought that the whole bleacher section was pretty neat. I like that it's not so official as your seats. You're out there in the out field taking in a ball game + you can catch home run balls if they don't go out into the bay without getting caught in your seat! ( I mean, wait what? who gets stuck in stadium seats that flip up? that's a ridiculous thing. definitely not me. I've definitely never gotten stuck.........)
view from the bleachers!
Speaking of my time out in Cali, Cali. We had the chance to see Chase Stadium, home of our parent club the Arizona DBacks with the roof open AND closed. Retractable roofs are pretty legit y'all. Even though they don't really have rain to worry about, they do have some serious heat out there. Man, dry heat is a sneaky kind of hot.
I've also been to Ranger's ballpark in Arlington, but it seems the only pictures I took there were after the game at the bar, so that's just not helpful at all! I'm hoping to get to at least two new MLB ballparks this summer. I did knock on MiLB park off the list so far, but since Jen is heading back up to Baltimore, I gotta go to a game at Camden Yards. Maybe I can even get up to Boston or something exciting like that? What's your favorite ballpark? Where should I go neeeext?

GUYS IT'S BACK!

Okay. OKAY. I AM SO EXCITED I CAN'T EVEN USE LOWERCASE LETTERS. Around The Hornwas so much fun that obviously we had to do something else for the regular season! SO. I got together with Allison AND HAVE WE GOT A SHOW FOR YOU (veggieee taaaales veggie taaaaales veeegiiieee tales... veg-ie-tales. you're welcome.) *DRUM ROLL PLEASE* announcing the 7th Inning Stretch Linkup!

YAY! OH YAY I am so excited. Are you excited?! I AM EXCITED. Are you going to join us? PLEASE JOIN US! We're going to have so much baseball themed fun. It can literally be anything ANYTHING baseball related!
dance dance dance
Okay. So that was a lot of capital letters + shouting (does your reading voice shout at you when things are in all caps? I READ THEM LOUDER IN MY HEAD!) For good measure, here's a love song about cheeseburgers.

HAPPY OPENING DAY!

Do NOT talk to me about the Kimbrel trade. I'm not over it yet. Prospects are great, but you know, we need some people to play this year + next year. I can't deal. So today I WAS GOING TO SHARE a playlist for tailgating but I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what happened to Spotify's "embed" feature. WHAT IS THAT ABOUT GUYS?. Hashtag not over it. Anyone going to a game today? ANYONE GOING TO THE GAME FRIDAY? if so, we should totes hang out.

SO. Since I can't embed my playlist. I'm going to share some pictures from last year's Braves season. You know, when we could all name at  least 10 men on the roster....

So I'm sure we'll all have new favorite players, and come 2017 have a team that can string together a fair amount of wins, but until then we'll continue to be the most miserable sports city in America...

Around The Horn: Favorite Team + A World Series Prediction!

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS IS THE VERY LAST WEEK OF AROUND THE HORN? CAN YOU? CAN YOU THOUGH? I'm a little sad to see it go. Maybe we can find a way to bring it back. MAYBE I'LL DO AN ALL STAR BREAK CHECK IN! Would y'all want to do that? We'll see.

Now, the rules are easy. We had topics for each Thursday in March here, follow along with me + Jessa, grab the button below, link up, and make new friends woooooo!
Kasey At The Bat
If you can't guess my favorite team, I don't think you've ever been here before. So I'll reintroduce myself. Hi! My name is Kasey + I am probably one of the biggest Braves fans you will ever meet. I will defend them to my last breath. You know, that kind of fan. I'm unapologetic about it. I will defend Tommy Hanson's pitching motion until I'm blue in the face. I will think "this is the year. 2015 is our year. We're going to win the Series this year" until we are mathematically eliminated. every year.

okay well maybe not this year. BUT ONLY BECAUSE if the Cubs don't win this year, Biff never makes his zillions, we don't get hover boards, + the Dolorean just doesn't quite get to 88 mph. (guys. I really just got quite nerdy for a minute. you're welcome.)
Anyways. I was born + raised a Braves fan. Don't worry. I have proof. Here I am as a toe-headed heathen at Atlanta Fulton County. From what I've been told, this is actually a picture of me at a World Series game. SO THERE.  Let's be real. You couldn't pull that outfit off like I am.
I've even been to see them in places that aren't Turner Field. ONE TIME I saw them at AT&T on Easter where they swept the Giants. Even if some Giants fans did corner me in the bathroom (that was super scary y'all. I thought I might be done for.
So there you have it! Braves fan till I die y'all. I will like you no matter who you root for though (well unless your a Nationals fan. Then we'll probably have some issues..........) So let's hear it for the boys! Who's your favorite team? Why? Also, barring the Cubbies beating the Fish + hover boards becoming a thing -- I predict the Braves winning in seven. (gotta keep it interesting.) Who do you think it's gonna be? I have a plan for a fun prize if someone actually correctly predicts the outcome.

Around The Horn: Favorite Player

CAN YOU GUYS BELIEVE WE'RE ALREADY HALFWAY THROUGH THIS? I'm getting ScoreCenter updates on my phone so it's real guys. Baseball season is almost here!!!!!! So, let's get down to business (to defeat the Huns). If you don't have much of an appetite today, you should check out all of the ballpark food we drooled over last week -- you're guaranteed to be hungry afterwards.

Now, the rules are easy. We have topics for each Thursday in March here, follow along with me + Jessa, grab the button below, link up, and make new friends woooooo!
Kasey At The Bat

Now. Favorite player is such a tough one for me. I mentioned how Javy Lopez was the first man I ever loved. For the longest time Tommy Hanson was a mild obsession (actually, that was pretty funny. I convinced people that he was actually my boyfriend so when he got a concussion at spring training one year people called me to make sure he was okay. only a little crazy right? no, no that's a lot crazy.)
I always felt like I could justify it because plenty of girls looooooved Chipper (honestly, I never got the appeal sorry if he's your favorite..) I just remember one day, when I was working in Rome, after a game Tommy Hanson stayed to sign autographs for every little kid. Even though he didn't have to. The most adorable trait of a ballplayer in my eyes. I also became a fan of Brandon Belt when I was in the Cali league + he was rehabbing with the other team. Even though it meant I couldn't go home until he decided to go home.
There was also a time when we had a fan club for a few of our friends on the baseball team. Fun fact: shortly after this picture was taken, I almost go kicked out of the FSU baseball stadium. You really shouldn't tell me I can sit "anywhere I can find a space for my behind that doesn't belong to a ticketed fan" if you don't mean anywhere
OKAY. So aside from Javy (well, and Brandon Belt...) I have always had a special place in my heart for pitchers. Couldn't tell you why, I played first base growing up...
So with all the Braves trades + deals, I don't have a current favorite player. I'm in the market for a new favorite player, so why don't you convince me? Who's yours? Link up link up link up!! We'll have so much fun!

Around The Horn: Favorite Baseball Memory

OH MY GOSHY GUYS. I'm so excited that you're here to link up with Jessa + myself!! Here's a quick recap of how this works!

Write about this week's prompt, follow Kasey + Jessa, linkup, and make new friends!! Here's the button:
Kasey At The Bat

Now that we have all of that out of the way! I don't know if I could pick one favorite baseball memory for all of the money in the world. I have so many!

There are all of the wonderful friends I have made because of baseball. Both working in sports + genuinely enjoying the game.

There's that time they convinced me I could play the Dizzy Bat race + not die, the time I dressed up as Princess Leia even though it was 112 degrees outside (literally), the times I dressed up as the mascot...

Then there are the amazing games I've been to.. Huddy's 200th win (where Bryce Harper helped him also hit a home run...) Braves in the playoffs, even if Brooks Conrad let the ball go through his legs, twice, the time I went to a Braves game in San Francisco + saw them complete a sweep of the Giants, the time I went to an A's game in Texas, the times we went to D'Backs games...

That's probably my favorite part of "America's Pasttime" the pace of the game allows you to make memories at the game. People complain about how slow games are, I don't think they're paying attention. I love that I can go to a game with friends, have a few beers, some snacks, and catch up. It's not a constant back-and-forth, it's a leisurely pace.

What are your favorite memories? Don't forget to linkup here!!!::
