So You're Going to the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party...

A few years ago, former UGA President Mike Adams tried to get them to stop calling the Georgia Florida game the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Maybe that's why he's no longer the University President... If you're piling in a car and making the ride down to Jacksonville this weekend, here's what you need to know!
georgia florida
a not so neutral location // okay. supposedly Georgia Florida is played at a neutral site. That's not true, Jacksonville is in Florida. It's also only an hour and a half from Gainesville, aka The Swamp. It's five and a half hours from Athens. However, the stadium is split up ticket wise, 50/50.
georgia florida
an ugly rivalry // if you need to know how to spot a Gator fan, check out Sarah's description, be on the lookout for jorts. This rivalry is probably the biggest one we have. I mean, I don't even want to cheer for Florida when it comes down to SEC vs Non-SEC, but I do. We can't even agree on the record. Georgia claims the first meeting was in 1904, and the record stands with us leading 50-40-2. Florida, on the other hand, claims that first game in 1904 didn't happen + that the record is 49-40-2..
LINDSAY SCOTT LINDSAY SCOTT! // in the category of Larry Munson calls I can recite by heart -- this is probably number one. back third down on the eight, in trouble it'll give you goosebumps the stadium, well the stadium fell down. He even explains how all the Georgia fans stay up in St. Simons + Jekyll Island man, is there gonna be some property destroyed tonight. HE EVEN SAYS DAWGS. ON. TOP. Bless it, I miss Larry.

okefenokee oar // up until 2009, this game was played without a trophy, but that's around the time Mike Adams thought he should try to get everyone to stop calling it the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail party. We really weren't his biggest fan. Anyways, the Okefenokee Oar is a 10 foot wooden oar that has logos for both Universities on it. It's silly, but aren't all rivalry trophies?
gators wear jean shorts // it's the truth man,  I've seen it. In that picture up there I'm in the corner because we're actually trying to get a picture of the guy behind us who's wearing orange. denim. pants. not just orange. not just jeans. orange. jeans. ORANGE. don't get me started on orange..  also, just ask this little nugget okay?
If you're looking for me, I'LL BE THERE! watch for me on TV + stuff, maybe they'll have picked up the story of my lucky dress. I promise I'll try really super hard not to get in any fights. Linking up with Sarah + Karli! What games are you excited for this weekend? Will you be chanting gators wear jean shorts just slightly less adorable than that little nugget?

You Look Like My Next Mistake

I confess, that I started this post last Friday because I had writers block and I figured writing something else would help me decide what to blog about then.. If this doesn't work, I'll resort to a blogging prompt. I have so many saved on Pinterest though. I guess since this post is going live after Friday's, you already know what I wrote about. How weird is that to think about? Anyways. Let's do some confessions.
Vodka and Soda
Thursday we went to see Jake Owen + Eli Young. First of all, I love Eli Young, but I don't remember him talking so much the last time I saw him. SUCH a gabber. The concert was great, we made some friends who got us down on the floor, but my confession is I paid $18 for a tequila drink. EXCUSE ME? Eighteen dollars? Is this tequila going to give me super human abilities? No, the answer is no. The drink wasn't even strong. It was mostly orange juice. I shoulda stuck with beer.
I bought my ticket for Georgia Florida on eBay. Outstanding decision. I ended up getting two tickets for the price of one, so I can always sell the other one for more or whatever and it's like mine was free! However my dyslexia definitely kicked in while I was deciding which ticket to buy, and I managed to get seats in 430 instead of 403. That's right, loud mouthed me in my lucky gameday dress will be assigned a seat smack dab in the middle of the Florida section. I sure hope they think I'm cute and don't try to fight me...
does this ever get old? no? I didn't think so.
I spent like, an entire afternoon last week pinning things for my bar cart. Like, created a whole pinterest board for it + everything. Then I went down the rabbit hole of fun bar themed prints. Then I started making my own! Oh I am so excited to start putting it all together y'all. it's gonna be awesome.

I used the wrong form of "hers" because her's isn't even a word, thanks. in my fun little graphic for Saturday's post -- just the graphic. I spelled it correctly everywhere else. I don't know how I didn't realize it until Monday at lunch. Needless to say, I left it because we should all be able to see what happens when I try to be creative before my coffee.

I really, really dig the new T. Swift album. I've always been a Taylor fan and it's not even a guilty pleasure, #sorrynotsorry. I really like that she's mixing it up and I love that she's growing up. I like that it's different. Plus "oh my god, look at that face, you look like my next mistake" is pretty much my dating strategy...

Very Superstitious

"I'm not superstitious, just a little stitious..." That's really not a good way to describe me, but it's so fun to say! Anyways, let's find out just what I'm superstitious about!
Helene in Between Blogtober

watching or not watching a game on TV // so this goes season to season, this year, for example, I couldn't watch the Braves on TV. I swear they lost every game where I watched them on TV. I don't want that responsibility on my shoulders!

lucky dress // good thing it's a cute one. I didn't wear it once and the team lost, so obviously I have to keep wearing it until it doesn't work. Also, not sorry for posting this collage again...
yellow lights // I do that whole kiss the roof of the car thing, every time I go under a yellow light. I couldn't even tell you why, I'm just really sure that if I don't I will die. Obviously.

train tracks // under the same premise, when I go over train tracks I lift my feet up + put a finger on a screw. It's getting progressively harder as cars get fancier + don't have exposed screws anymore. I couldn't even tell you where I picked this one up at though.

don't talk about it // I will absolutely not talk about a no hitter, if my team is winning the game, if my kicker is on a streak, etc. I don't want to be the jinx. AFTER it's over, I'm totally gonna talk about it. But I will absolutely not say anything until it's over. I also don't believe my team will win until there are zero seconds left on the clock.

being picked to win certain games // it's rarely a good sign when we're favored over USC or Florida. Some years it's legit, but I feel like in the SEC it's any given Saturday.

my cocktail of choice // if I'm drinking something different than my normal tequila sunrise or mimosas, we don't seem to win. it seems like the key is orange juice. I don't wanna chance it though, so I'll just have a lot of vitamin C in my system...

where I sit // I have spots in the house I have to watch the game. Usually it's not even sitting, more standing + possibly pacing. It's really cute, you should really be watching sporting events with me.

things I'm not superstitious about, but most people are//
friday the 13th // for some reason it's actually a good day for me usually...
black cats/ladders/broken mirrors// I'm sure I'm jinxing myself about these things, but I haven't had that much of an experience with them one way or the other! I'm not much of a cat person though...

Obviously, this list changes regularly, usually getting longer rather than shorter.... How about you, what are you a little stitious about? Also, got this jam for y'all..

Photo Apps I Couldn't Live Without

Okay well that's a rather dramatic title. But let's be for real, no one actually posts "no filter" photos anymore. I know the sunset looked like that to you, but your phone didn't capture it. Oh, you didn't use a filter, you just bumped up the vibrance + saturation? Either way, I never take a picture with the Instagram app, I always use at least one if not all of these before posting to Instagram.

afterlite // this is my absolute favorite. You can edit every aspect of the photo + I'm really a sucker for those frames. makes the whole picture fit in the square Instagram mold..

a beautiful mess // I love love this app because it lets me doodle on pictures, add funny shapes + also automatically makes them fit the Instagram size! [it's ABM in the App store... also their Party Party app is too fun...]
ABM

VSCO cam // can I even claim to be a blogger or amateur photographer if I don't use VSCO? I do love that it lets me work my phone camera like the manual settings on my DSLR though. It's pretty groovy.
VSCO Cam
PS express // dude. this is the best for when you take those low light pictures, because how bad is the iPhone at low light pictures? that's mostly what I use this for, fixing the lighting. it also works great when you want to add saturation to the picture but not turn everyone orange.
PS Express
I figured the best way to demonstrate these would be to use the most flattering picture of myself I could find. So obviously I picked this one.. What apps do you rely on for Instagram

Five Things For UGA vs. Arkansas

Okay, we're still not ready to forget that we blanked Mizzou. Well, I'm not at least. I haven't been that proud of our defense in a while. That whole team made one hell of a statement to everyone who thought we couldn't produce without Todd Gurley. This week is by no means an easy week either, we never seem to have easy weeks.. This week we head to the University of Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks, here's a handy guide for this weekend::
uga football

SEC West // last week was an important game for the SEC East battle,  this game is a different kind of important. Since Arkansas is in the SEC West, we can lose this game and still head to the SEC Championship game, but we need to win this game, because I want us to go to the playoffs, obviously. The first matchup between UGA and Arkansas was in 1969, and the record currently stands with Georgia leading 9-4. The teams haven't met since 2010 when Arkansas came to Athens and beat us 31-24. Hopefully there's still a bad taste in their mouth.

a freshman! // with Todd Gurley possibly out for the rest of the season, we have shown our depth in the running back position. Georgia has always been an outstanding program for running backs, and this year is no different. Last week, true freshman Nick Chubb picked the team up and carried for a career high 143 yards and one TD. It rubs me the wrong way that the announcers called him "Baby Gurley" for the first quarter, but after they realized he was an outstanding athlete all on his own, they learned his name. Hopefully we'll get to see a lot more of Nick this weekend.

while we're talking about Todd // there's not been an actual update on his status, I'm going to take a second to voice my opinion on this subject. The kid made a bad choice and put his team and career in jeopardy, but college is a time to make mistakes. When I was twenty, I made plenty of mistakes in Athens, not limited to a haircut, the guy I dated, and going to Bourbon Street. I think Coach Richt did the right thing by sitting him, because we all remember AJ Green's suspension [which by the way, everyone still felt the same way then.] I hope all of the media coverage is enough for the NCAA to realize there are certain rules they should change. If they're really hurtin' for that money, why don't they set up an approved system for the athletes to sign autographs and receive a kickback? Because, honestly, if it's true that he only got $20 an item, he got ripped off. That's all I have on that. Well unless I write up an argument against people saying "rules are rules" -- that would make a good list... Also, I'm just going to leave this here.

wooo pig sooie! // The University of Arkansas is an SEC school, so obviously they have traditions too. [I'm sure other schools have them, I'm just really not up to any of the other division school's traditions..] In Athens, we call the dawgs, well in Arkansas they call the hogs! I love a good chant. So if you hear someone shout "woo pig sooie!' on Saturday, they're not being rude or calling you fat, they're just cheering for Arkansas.

all about that d // Arkansas really likes to run the ball, so does Georgia. This game will come down to which team's D-Line can stop the run game. Last week we forced poor Matty Mauk to throw four interceptions, so if the defense that went to Mizzou also goes to Arkansas, I'll only lose like, 4 years off of my life instead of 10. If the defense that showed up for Tennessee is there, I'll be closer to 15.

So, if you're looking for me Saturday, I'll be wearing my lucky dress and stress drinking mimosas, hold the orange juice. So really, it'll just be champagne. I'm linking up with Sarah + Karli! What games are you looking forward to this weekend? Do you have a lucky gameday outfit, watching spot, or mixed drink?

I Need A Coffee IV

Obligatory comment about how it's already the 15th + I can't believe we're halfway to November because I am not ready for November. I'm also not mentally prepared to deal with the fact that I haven't been in sports in a full time capacity for a year, that's a really hard thing for me to deal with. So let's go back to the fun stuff!
Vodka and Soda
I'm genuinely surprised that so many people during the #Blogtober14 prompts say they really don't like Halloween. I didn't realize it was a holiday people didn't care for, maybe it's because I'm always up for candy + theme parties though. Plus, Hocus Pocus.

I took the BuzzFeed "Which Gilmore Girls Character Are You" quiz, because I always thought I was Rory [I even got her haircut!] but according to all of BuzzFeed's wisdom, I'm actually Lorelai. The more I think about it, the more that's probably true. I am hilarious, addicted to coffee, and capable of talking to a wall..

The closer I get to my European adventure [it's in 73 days ohmygod] the more worried I'm getting that once I go I'll never want to come back. I read all of these fun blogs about expats and it makes me want to pick up and move. To Ireland or Australia or Germany or anywhere that would have me.

With the 34-0 win over Mizzou this weekend, I've come to the realization that I can never wear a different dress. The one game this year I didn't wear the dress? We lost. So far the dress is 8-0 EIGHT. In related news, I've worn that dress to/for eight games. I've definitely gotten my $35 out of it. I realized that I might have to get married in it + also requested that if I died during Saturday's game, that I be buried in it. good thing it's a cute dress.
That's all I have to confess today, make sure you head over to Kat's place to see what everyone else is confessing! What do you have to confess this week?

Five Things For UGA vs. Mizzou

Friday during College Football season might be my favorite kind of Friday. Unless it's a fireworks Friday, I do love fireworks... Anyways. This is a very big and important weekend for the University of Georgia football team. We're headed to the other Columbia to take on Mizzou. Here's the breakdown for this week's matchup. No, I don't know why this week is another noon game

Mizzou is the new kid // in 2012 the SEC expanded to add two more teams [Texas A&M and Mizzou]. We played Mizzou in their very first ever SEC game and we showed them about old man football. Last year, Mizzou was ready and they did not let us off so easily. After the craziness of last weekend though, we need to beat Mizzou [and Kentucky..] to win the SEC East. I'm sure the folks at Mizzou haven't forgotten their first SEC game, so this should be a real fight. Also, we're still not over the "old man football" thing.

Todd Gurley -- an autograph debacle // I have a lot of opinions, that's probably the main reason I started a blog.. Yesterday "news broke" that Todd Gurley allegedly sold autographs. The NCAA has more rules than anyone could ever dream of following. This one is the dumbest one they have. The first figure we got was 80 autographs for $400. If you're wondering, you can't get two tickets to Georgia Auburn in the upper decks for $400. You can almost get two tickets to Georgia Florida for that much. Hopefully we'll get Olivia Pope on this and have Todd back. I'm not going to say anything about any other athletes allegedly doing something and not facing any kind of suspensions. Todd Gurley is an absolute delight to watch on the field though, don't believe me? Watch this:

the winner controls their own destiny in the SEC East // whoever wins this game, will almost definitely go to Atlanta in December. Georgia fans were thankful that Mizzou beat South Carolina for us, but then immediately went to "can we beat Mizzou?" I mentioned how the loser of the UGA/USC game usually does better in the SEC than the winner, we're all hoping that holds true this weekend.

college football playoff implications // since the BCS is no more, this game might have more than just the SEC East on the line. One of the considerations is strength of schedule, and Georgia has always had a tough schedule, and this year isn't any different. Who knows, maybe Georgia can make a statement at this game and bring themselves back into the playoff conversation.

a tale of two quarterbacks // Mizzou has an outstanding athlete in Matty Mauk. He's experienced and has battled back from a few tough injuries and he thinks really well on his feet. Hutson Mason, on the other hand, is still a little green. Aaron Murray left some pretty big shoes to fill, and Huston is doing well, but still gives Georgia fans mini heart attacks when he throws the ball.

If you need me this weekend, I'll be wearing my lucky dress, stress eating, and probably being made to watch the game alone because only other Georgia fans can really understand the level of stress this game or really any Georgia game carries. Who are you stressing out over this weekend? Do you think college athletes should be able to profit off of their likeness? [that might be another blog for another day..]

I'm linking up with Sarah + since this is easily over 500 words, with Becca too! Don't forget to enter to win the Too Faced + Sephora Giftcard!

What's a Hobnail Boot + Other Things You Need to Know for Georgia Tennessee

The University of Georgia rivalry with the University of Tennessee differs from the UGA/USC rivalry because Herschel scored his first touchdown against Tennessee, Tennessee has had their song that drives us crazy (Rocky Top.) longer, and they wear orange. Georgia fans abhor the color orange. It's just not our shade. Auburn wears it, Florida wears it, and Tennessee wears it. So here are some things you need to know before you head to Athens for this one!
uga football tennessee rivalry

Hobnail Boot
I remember where I was and what I was doing the day Larry Munson died. Larry Munson left the University of Georgia with an abundance of outstanding calls. One of which was "he stepped on their face with a hobnail boot and broke their nose" I remember it. "touchdown! my God a touchdown!" I was 12. I had to look up what a hobnail boot was. That was already a big game, but that play, that game matters in our history. Watch, here you can see Mark Richt tell the story better than me:

Tennessee Leads
Tennessee leads the series 21-20-2, with nine of those 21 coming in a row from 1989 to 1999 [they didn't meet in 1991..] Tennessee has been through a lot the past few years, but we for sure haven't forgotten what a powerhouse they have the potential to be. Georgia has won the past four in a row, last year by the skin of their teeth. It's always a close game, because in the SEC, you never know what could happen

Rocky Top.
It's imperative not to let Tennessee win because you will have to hear Rocky Top a million times. You will absolutely never in a million years get that song out of your head. I know I exaggerate quite often, but this is the truth. Here, listen to it, then tell me you don't have it stuck in your head. good ole' rocky top.

2007.
In 2007, my freshman year, an unranked Tennessee beat us and beat us bad. They won 35-14, were our only loss that year, and kept us out of the BCS National Championship because the head-to-head loss kept us out of the SEC Championship game.

the color orange.
Listen. Orange is not a good color okay? There are very few people who look good in the color orange. Tennessee orange is a special brand of orange too. It always reminds me of Home Depot + prison jumpsuits.

Hutson Mason said it best, "if you don't take Tennessee seriously, they will beat you and ruin your season." Don't forget to enter for the $100 to J. Crew! Check that out! I'm also linking up with Sarah + for Oh Hey Friday! What games are you watching this weekend?
